Inspiration: Childhood Valentines

Remember back in the day when you were a kid, and Valentine’s Day rolled around?

Usually the day was spent constructing mailboxes (which were just plain old paper bags covered in construction paper hearts, stickers, and glitter) and taping them to the desk. Then the valentine-giving frenzy began. Back then, Valentine’s Day wasn’t exclusive to someone you thought was cute. Everyone got a valentine. Even your teacher. So when the dust settled, and you found your way back to your desk, magically an overflowing bag of tiny envelopes would be there to await you! <3

AHH MEMORIES.

Last week I went through some of my old school papers from when I was young, and lo and behold, I came across a veritable -book- of valentines from elementary school! We’re talking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Care Bears, Mario Brothers, My Little Pony, Garfield, Legend of Zelda, and the list goes on! Truly a nostalgia bomb. (Thanks Mom!) So, since it just so happens that it’s Valentine’s Day, I knew I had to share.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Hub Comics’ “In The Name of the Moon” Sailor Moon Art Show

Baby’s first art show! It was truly an honor to be chosen to be in this show amongst such great talent.

For my piece I wanted to explore the idea of Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) as if she had been a Japanese music idol. Much of the treatment was based on the 80s and early 90s, when Sailor Moon was created. It was a great way to merge illustration and typography together. See more here.

Thanks to Starlightslk for this great time-lapse video of the show! My piece is the very last work to be shown in the video.

More great photos taken by the lovely Betty Felon can be found here.

Inspiration: Eraser Collection

I get so much of my design inspiration from vintage things from my childhood. This is just a portion of my eraser collection that I display in an old Orbitz bottle. When I was a kid I would save up change to buy these at school. I love the classic 90’s motifs.

My First MIMOBOT series: Adventure Time!

Today is a big day for me. After many months of work my first MIMOBOT series is out & it’s (my obsession) Adventure Time! It’s basically a dream come true. All the drives come with Adventure Time episodes, icons, avatars, wallpapers and more (and they’re all made with love by me!) It’s really exciting to see my designs come to life — especially with something I care about so much. I feel so lucky.

If you like Adventure Time (and maybe me?) please think about picking one up or just spreading the word. I really hope the series does well — that way I can make more! Especially BMO & Marcy, amiright? I would really appreciate the support! http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=3607

Work + Play

All kinds of new items have been updated around the site and there has been a bit out house keeping too. Things have been awfully busy around here, that’s for sure.

The new piece being featured is my self portrait, “Me in a Nutshell.” I’ve gotten a bunch of great feedback from folks, so I may consider printing a short run of them! See more over here.

Not too long ago my friend Adrienne made a post of our adventure to New York for Sanrio’s Small Gift tour. Rather than just repeat everything that she said, I’ll just send you her way. It certainly was a blast.

Hello Kitty. Goodbye Money!

Opening Day

Smallwish.com is finally online (again!) after a long period of being down. I can hardly believe it myself! The very first time Small Wish debuted was back in 2003. Whoa! Lots of things have changed since then, but a lot remains the same.

So welcome to the new Smallwish.com! Please be patient as new sections will be placed soon~
